YORK UNIVERSITY
TESTS

There are 3 tests that cover material covered in the lectures. During the lectures various songs are played and historical facts discussed that relate to these artists and their music. You can be tested on any of these facts so it is imperative that notes be taken during the lectures. These tests are listening tests where songs are played in their entirety and you are required to write data about the songs on pre-printed examination sheets. TEST NOTES

  • These are part live listening tests and part quizzes on context information from the lectures. Because these tests involde music, they cannot be re-run for absent/late students. There is no "make-up" test for this class. Missing a test can result in a mark of zero.
  • Tests are multiple-choice and conducted with Scantron forms.
  • You must have a pencil and eraser to complete the test effectively and efficiently.
  • There are no half-marks for partially correct answers. Therefore, misspelled artist and song names will result in a mark of zero for those components.
  • The test will last approximately 30 minutes
  • Unless mentioned, there is no lecture following a test.
  • All students must remain seated until the exam has concluded.
  • Songs will not be replayed for students arriving late.
  • There is to be no talking during the test.
  • Any student caught cheating will receive a mark of zero for the test and reported to the Music Department.
  • No paper, bottle, cellphone, bag, purse or objects of any kind is allowed on your desk.
  • No electronic devices of any kind are to be accessed or allowed on your desk.
  • There must be at least one empty chair on between you and any student in the same row.
  • You are responsible for being in the examination room at least 5 minutes before class time.
  • Test marks are posted in approximately 2 weeks after the examination.
